Equipping for Disability Inclusion in God’s Mission
Tuesday, 15 July 2025
In least reached communities that SIM engages with in mission around the world, the need to equip people in disability ministry continues to increase.
In today’s world, 1 in 6 people experience significant disability. This makes up 1.3 billion people around the globe representing 16% of the world’s population^. Many people with disabilities still experience discrimination as they try to survive in daily life. SIM has a vision to see people living with a disability know the love of Jesus and be engaged in mission.
Through the evolution of missions, there is now a great desire for more awareness, inclusion and belonging for people living with disabilities within God's global church.
Our Disability Advocate for SIM, Melissa*, has a passion to help people with disabilities be ‘reached’ with the Gospel and ‘engaged’ in mission and ‘embraced’ in the church.
How does Entrusted equip globally for disability mission?
Entrusted aims to equip ministries, partners and individual workers within the global SIM community through disability ministry. The project initiative seeks to raise awareness and inclusion for people with disability affirming that they are made in God’s image and instrumental to building up His Kingdom.
Melissa has the privilege of working with disability ministries in SIM all around the world. One example includes support for a SIM worker in Continental Asia who teaches in a school where inclusive education for a child with disability is not well developed. This worker has started equipping other teachers to know how to do this more effectively.
“I am thankful to God for helping me play a small part in enabling this colleague to further develop his disability ministry in his context,” Melissa said.
Similarly, Melissa is connected to a couple serving at a Bible College in East Africa. They began to teach a course at their Bible College where local pastors are now equipped to reach, engage and embrace people with disabilities in their community.
“My prayer is that ministries like this will make a positive impact for people with disabilities in different parts of the world,” Melissa shared.
Where there has been no hope for people living with a disability, through Entrusted, God is equipping more SIM workers to change this and help bring hope in least reached communities engaged with the Gospel.
