From rugged highlands to bustling cities, SIM’s story is one of faith in action - bringing the Gospel to places where Christ is least known. For more than two decades, Dick McClellan and his late wife, Vida, lived in the remote highlands of southwest Ethiopia as SIM mission workers during the 1950s–70s. Vida, a nurse trained in leprosy care in Queensland, brought healing and hope to those suffering from disease. Dick, sent as a builder, used his skills to construct mission stations, medical clinics, schools, roads, bridges, and even airstrips. Together with local Ethiopian evangelists and partners, they helped lay foundations - both physical and spiritual - that transformed communities. 

From its earliest days, SIM has embraced a holistic mission: proclaiming the Gospel (Word) and demonstrating Christ’s love through practical service (Deed). This DNA of “faith in action” has shaped ministries and projects that meet needs while pointing people to Jesus. Whether through healthcare, education, or community development, SIM projects have opened doors to hard-to-reach places and created opportunities for Gospel discipleship. Each initiative stands as a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the creativity of His people in responding to needs with compassion. 

Today, SIM Australia continues this legacy by growing projects that respond to Gospel needs into the future. These projects enable mission workers to serve alongside local churches and partners, equipping believers and blessing communities worldwide. For supporters, they offer a tangible way to engage in God’s global mission - seeing kingdom impact and partnering in meaningful ways. 

As we honour our mission past and embrace the future, our commitment remains steadfast: to make Christ known where He is least known.
