Growing Church Leaders Locally and Globally
Wednesday, 15 October 2025
When Brighton Rockdale Anglican Church sent Jeremy and Felicity* to South Asia, their passion for mission sparked growth in new church leaders to arise. Their pastor, Steve Bryan has seen firsthand how sending mission workers can spark growth in church leaders, both at home and overseas.
Jeremy and Felicity’s call to serve overseas in global mission then became a catalyst for the church to be involved in local mission.
“Recently, our church has gained an enthusiasm for reaching South Asians in our neighbourhood. We’ve planted a small church gathering and have met a handful of times. This is partly due to the encouragement of our SIM workers Jeremy and Felicity* who serve in South Asia,” Steve shared.
Steve’s visit to South Asia allowed him to witness firsthand the work Jeremy and Felicity are involved in, including SIM projects and church planting. He met believers from a majority faith background who are now sharing the Gospel within their own communities—mirroring the outreach Brighton Rockdale is now doing in Sydney.
“During my visit, I was able to experience how SIM partners with churches in South Asia. I remember meeting local believers who were planting churches and are now sharing the Gospel with those of the same faith background. Our church has been blessed to have a connection with the ministry of Jeremy and Felicity by doing similar work locally in reaching South Asians.”
One story that deeply impacted Steve during his visit to South Asia was of a mission worker who began serving in the 1970s among a least reached ethnic people group. At the time, only five believers were known. Today, through decades of prayer and faithful ministry, that number has now grown to over 50,000.
“Seeing the ministry grow 10,000-fold reinforced the truth that God has not stopped working around the world. This is especially encouraging for our church members back in Australia. Our partnership with SIM has broadened our understanding of global mission.”
Jeremy and Felicity have a long history with Brighton Rockdale Anglican. Before their first term in South Asia, they were active members of the church - serving in local ministries and helping others share the Gospel with least reached communities in Sydney. On Home Assignment, they continued to invest in the church, mentoring others and encouraging cross-cultural outreach.
Together, those who send and those who are sent share in the privilege of God’s mission. Brighton Rockdale Anglican’s story is a reminder how sending mission workers globally can ignite growth in church leaders locally.
