Questions about mission

SIM mission workers raise prayer and financial support from churches, friends, and others who commit to partner with them in ministry. SIM receives and administers donations for our mission workers on their behalf, including sending receipt acknowledgements to missionary partners.

We work with each mission worker to develop a support agreement suited to their needs, including a budget for their set up costs, living expenses, emergency contingency and retirement savings.
We also support our mission workers through prayer, orientation training, pastoral care, and by raising awareness about their mission work.

Questions about donations

In our last fiscal year, SIM Australia spent 3% of income on administration and fundraising. You can see a finance overview in the SIM Effect, our annual report. You can also request a full copy of our audits by getting in touch with the Partner Relations team.

SIM Australia is committed to godly stewardship of our resources. We value the trust and confidence our supporters and missionaries place in us. We recognise that this trust must be earned and kept.

SIM Australia is a registered charitable organisation with ACNC as well as members of Missions Interlink. We are independently audited annually to ensure our finances are in accordance with accounting standards.

SIM International perform a bi-annual audit to ensure the financial and operational integrity of SIM offices around the world. These internal audits ensure that all programs are meeting the highest standards of financial accountability and integrity. A complete audit report is presented to the National Director and Financial Director of each office.

A donation report is also sent to our missionaries every month. We use a recognised commercial donor relations software program to provide reports to our missionaries and project reporters monthly.

SIM Australia can process payments the following ways:

•Online
•Credit card
•Direct debit (contact our office or download this form)
•Cheque
•Direct deposit (contact our office)

If you would like to pay cash, please contact our Partner Relations team on 1300 746 580 or via a contact form.

Making a pledge is a way of expressing your commitment to providing on-going support to a missionary over their term of service. Pledges can also be made to support projects. This is preferable to a one-off donation as a pledge will enable SIM to gauge when a person or project has enough support to cover their budget.

If you don’t have a particular person or project in mind that you would like to give to, you can contact our office. Someone will be able to share with you about missionaries and projects that are under supported or experiencing a current need. They will be able to make a recommendation if you would like one.

Contact our Partner Relations team on 1300 746 580 / (02) 9580 1422 or via our contact form.

To set up a pledge to a mission worker, search for their name under ‘donate’ and then ‘mission workers’.
Alternatively, contact our Partner Relations team on 1300 746 580 / (02) 9580 1422 or via our contact form.

SIM needs to issue a custom reference number for each missionary or project you wish to contribute to via direct deposit. This is so we can ensure that we allocate your gift to the correction designation.

If you would like to set up a direct deposit for a missionary or project fund, please contact our Partner Relations team on 1300 746 580 / (02) 9580 1422 or via our contact form.

When a SIM Australia mission worker completes their term of service and returns to Australia permanently, they (as well as SIM Australia) will contact you as a supporter to inform you of their situation. When this happens, the mission worker may need your prayers and financial assistance for up to six months after they return to Australia while they resettle and seek employment.

If you are able to continue supporting the missionary, it will be greatly appreciated! SIM Australia and the mission worker will let you know when they no longer need support. You can, of course, change or cancel your pledge at any time by contacting out Partner Relations team on 1300 746 580 / (02) 9580 1422 or via our contact form.

If you can’t find the name of a missionary working with SIM Australia, it may be because they are working in a sensitive context. In this instance, you will need to search for the missionary using their first name. If you still cannot find the person you are looking for, contact our Partner Relations team on 1300 746 580 / (02) 9580 1422.

If you cannot find a project, there may have been a change in the status of the project. The best thing to do would be to contact the Partner Relations team.

No – the website does not facilitate this. You will have to get directly in contact with the Partner Relations office. You can do this by calling 1300 746 580 / (02) 9580 1422 or via our contact form.

One-off donations are processed on the day we receive them. For pledges, the payment is processed on the date of the instalment.

Yes. Receipts can be received by email or post.

At your request, if you are supporting only a missionary, we will  send you a receipt summary at the End of Financial Year (July) which details all gifts for the year.

A mission worker’s support target is set in consultation with their ministry and takes into account their intended location. It covers the costs needed for them to live and minister in that context, such as a living allowance, housing, transport, support services, medical costs and education.

Yes. Mission workers receive an allowance which is dependent on their support. They are employees of the mission when they become Members.

Yes. Mission workers return to Australia for home assignment at the end of each term of service. They need your prayers and financial support while they are in Australia. During this time, they will receive a debriefing and re-orientation coordinated by SIM. They will also reconnect with their supporters to share what God has been doing through their ministry. Home Assignment is also an opportunity for raising additional prayer and financial support if needed and mission workers may choose to pursue additional training/education opportunities. An important part of Home Assignment is providing the opportunity for rest and renewal before returning to the field.

If you are able to continue supporting the mission worker, it will be greatly appreciated! SIM Australia and the mission worker will let you know when they no longer need support. You can, of course, change or cancel you pledge at any time by contacting the Partner Relations team on 1300 746 580 / (02) 9580 1422 or via our contact form.

This is not a common occurrence, but sometimes a mission worker must end their agreed term of service prematurely. This could be due to a variety of reasons including civil conflict or natural disasters, illness/injury, family or personal situation, or insufficient financial support. A mission worker may also return home prematurely due to a change in their term of service cycle.

In all these cases, SIM Australia and/or the missionary will communicate with supporters about the situation. Donations will continue to be processed as the mission worker still needs your continued prayers and financial support until they can return to the field. If their situation changes and they can no longer return to the field or serve with SIM, you will be notified.

You can, of course, change or cancel your pledge at any time by contacting our Partner Relations team on 1300 746 580 / (02) 9580 1422 or via our contact form.
