As SIM Mission Workers, Itengré and Rasmata serve by delivering compassionate and holistic care for women with obstetric fistula in West Africa.
They conduct community outreach activities to raise awareness among community leaders, train healthcare providers, and network with public health centres to reduce stigma, strengthen the capacity of birth attendants to prevent fistula occurrence, and foster the referral of patients for treatment. During and after treatment, sessions of trauma healing are conducted, women receive social reintegration services such as education, psycho-social support, and training in income generating activities in the centre.
Their proactive and holistic approach improves early diagnosis and case management, ensuring that patients receive specialised and comprehensive care, minimising the number of unsuccessful surgeries.
