Mayotte is a very unique region of France. The native population is close to 100 per cent Muslim and, while more than 70 per cent of the local people speak fluent French as a second language, the first languages are Shimaore and the lesser spoken Kibushi. Around 50 per cent of the population is made up of illegal immigrants from the Comoros, who are also Muslim.
SIM workers use business and their professions to become accepted members of the community, build relationships and eventually share the gospel in private settings.
